OSARCC is looking for counselling volunteers

OSARCC is looking for new counselling volunteers!

OSARCC's counseling service is under huge demand, so we're looking for new counselling volunteers to enable us to support more survivors of sexual violence. If you are interested supporting survivors of sexual violence, developing your counselling skills, and joining a diverse group of supportive women then OSARCC would love to hear from you.

Training will start in July 2017 and runs over a series of evenings and weekends.

Who can volunteer?

We are looking for volunteer counsellors who are either qualified and accredited by BACP/UKCP (or similar); or students in their third year of a BACP/UKCP accredited diploma or above. Ideally you will have experience of working with women or girls who have experienced gender-based violence, and you will be empathetic, emotionally robust, a good team-player and open-minded. OSARCC operates a policy of equal opportunities and welcomes applications to volunteer from self-defining women from all walks of life. We require volunteers to be aged over 18. We are particularly keen to hear from women who belong to under-represented groups, for example women from Black, Asian, and other ethnic minority backgrounds; lesbian, bisexual and trans* women; and women who are disabled.

How will you benefit?

Counselling volunteers will become part of a diverse group of women working together to support survivors of sexual violence. You will be able to use your counselling skills and experience for the benefit of survivors, you will further develop your counselling skills and expertise, and you will receive high quality specialist training in working with survivors of sexual violence. You will also receive group and individual clinical supervision (both monthly) and ongoing professional training opportunities. For those in counselling training, you will be able to use your counselling hours towards your training qualification.
